Zambezi Kulefu Camp lies deep in the Lower Zambezi National Park of Zambia. Kulefu means 'the faraway place' an apt description for this luxurious secluded safari camp in the quieter eastern part of the Lower Zambezi valley. Profoundly peaceful, eco-friendly and luxurious, the Zambezi Kulefu Camp lies in a grove of winterthorn trees and overlooks one of the permanent channels of the Zambezi River. Here, after a thousand-mile journey, the sunlit river spreads out to form lush islands inhabited by crocodile, hippo and a multitude of water birds. The elephant feed extensively on the winterthorn seed pods and so are often seen close to camp. Lion and leopard are often sighted here with lion heard roaring at their counterparts in the Mana Pools on the opposite side of the river!
Zambezi Kulefu Camp has been completely rebuilt giving it a modern, sophisticated and luxurious feel. Changes include a lovely riverside lounge nestled under enormous acacia trees, a small swimming pool and an evening sitting area around the firepit right on the banks of the river. Seven spacious tented rooms are on raised teak decks with twin beds or double beds, mosquito nets, solar heated water, private veranda, ceiling fan and en-suite facilities with a bath as well as indoor and outdoor showers. The informal bar, lounge and dining area are under in a magnificent central tent, harmonising with the surrounding environment. Beautiful teak 'campaign' furniture and natural fabrics add comfort and a modern ambience. At night time traditional paraffin lanterns illuminate pathways and tent entrances.
Discover the magnificent wildlife of the Lower Zambezi National Park by boat, canoe, safari vehicle or on foot - or simply from the raised veranda of Kulefu camp. This is also an excellent area for bird-watching and star-gazing as well as tiger fishing on a catch and release basis.
Access to Zambezi Kulefu Camp is by light aircraft to either Jeki airstrip or Kulefu's own airstrip, followed by a 15 minute boat cruise from Kulefu 's airstrip to the lodge, or a one hour game drive from Jeki to the lodge. 12-volt solar panels run the camp lights and hot water systems meaning that video/camera batteries can be charged on request. Kulefu camp is open between mid April and mid November.
