Chiawa Camp, in the Lower Zambezi National Park, has an expansive river setting on the Zambezi River under the shade of ancient mahogany trees. Chiawa Camp is especially known for its excellent guiding and professionally run safari operation in Zambia.

Nine spacious, shaded safari tents are elevated on timber decks, each with twin beds with spring mattresses, en suite facilities, insect screens, mosquito nets and solar-powered 12 volt lighting.

The Chiawa honeymoon suite offers Old Africa comfort and style with a double bed, ball and claw bath with a view as well as a large shower. The superior tents are even more romantic and stylish : particularly spacious with a king sized bed, pure cotton linen, Molton Brown products, indoor and outdoor shower, doouble basins and ball and claw bath with a glorious view, a dream Zambian safari.

Chiawa Camp’s thatched lounge & bar area, with observation deck, and dining room overlooks the Zambezi River.

Chiawa Camp also has a carefully positioned viewing hide, overlooking the confluence of the Zambezi & Chowe Rivers, affording excellent, peaceful viewing of birds and the large mammals as they come down to the river to drink.

Chiawa Camp is one of the original camps in the Lower Zambezi and has been run by the Cummings family for years. Activities at this owner-run Chiawa Camp include day and night drives in open 4x4 vehicles, game-viewing by pontoon boat, nature walks with professional armed rangers, fishing for the infamous tiger fish on a catch and release basis on Zambezi Rivewr, sunset boat cruises and, the highlight, canoeing to view game at close quarters, particularly elephant (with half day& full day canoeing excursions on offer).

Chiawa Camp prides itself on their flexibility: given their number of vehicles, walking guides and boats, they can tailormake activities to suit each guest which is not always the case with Lower Zambezi camps. You fly into Jeki airstrip and then transferred to Chiawa Camp by road and boat. This is often a game-viewing experience and takes 40 minutes or more depending on what you see!

Chiawa was recently placed highly in a number of categories in the Best Safari Guide awards.
