We believe that tourism in Africa and other developing countries can and should be beneficial to the visitor, the local community and the natural environment. Our present enjoyment and enrichment need not be at the expense of future generations but can rather secure the survival of a fragile heritage. This is an area where small actions can have a significant effect. Our policy of independent and small group travel, using locally-owned accommodation and local guides, supports community involvement in tourism, in which wealth and employment are generated locally. Cedarberg guests also receive advice on ways they can ensure that their visit has a positive impact on their destination.
Lemoenland School
Cedarberg African Travel, with the support of employees and you, our clients, founded and built the Lemoenland Educare centre in 2001. Lemoenland now offers Pre-School for the local farm workers' children

The African Pulse
Cedarberg also works with local Twickenham charity, The African Pulse, which is working with schools on the issue of HIV/AIDS, particularly within the 8 – 14 age groups
Kizimkazi School, Unguja
Many of the lodges and hotels we work with have a mutually supportive link with their local community. Like Cedarberg, they often support the education of the local kids without the need for a huge NGO infrastructure. Here's just one example...

Cedarberg Heritage Route
In January 2008, Cedarberg African Travel launched the Cederberg Heritage Route, in partnership with local community organizations and CapeNature Conservation. This eco-tourism project is a collection of three community-based portered walking trails in the Cederberg Mountains of the Western Cape, only two hours north of Cape Town.
