Rift Valley and the Masai Mara | Kenya | Indian Ocean Beaches |
| A couple of days on the shore of Lake Naivasha makes a tranquil and evocative start to this Kenyan safari. Take it easy, soaking up the colonial ambience of the homestead, riding, boating or walking, or take a trip up to lake Nakuru for flamingoes, leopard, rhino and stunning scenery. This is followed by a flight to the magnificent Masai Mara and a stay in the heart of 'Big Cat Diary' country. This itinerary works with any incoming international flight and extra nights can easily be added in the Masai Mara or Lake Naivasha. |

Day 1 : Depart by road for Lake Naivasha. 2 nights Loldia House. From Nairobi Airport or from one of the Nairobi hotels, depart by road for Naivasha. The journey is not much longer than an hour. Loldia House is a home-from-home and a suitably romantic base from which to explore the region made infamous by the 'Happy Valley' set. A two night stay allows time to visit Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for quintessential images of Kenya such as acacias silhouetted against golden grasses and flamingoes carpeting the lake with pink. A longer stay allows for more leisurely guided walking on the estate and boating and birding on the fresh-water lake.
|
Day 3 : Flight to the Masai Mara. 3 nights Little Governors' Camp. Today you take a scheduled flight to the Mushiara Airstrip in the Masai Mara.
Little Governors' Camp is located in an extremely game-rich area where the last two series of the 'Big Cat Diary' documentary were filmed. This is testimony to the concentrations of game in this area, even when the seasonal Migration of wildebeest has not swelled the numbers of resident game. Little Governors' is a good choice for those planning to indulge themselves by taking a balloon safari (at extra cost) as the launchsite is right by the camp so guests staying here forfeit as little sleep as possible before the dawn launch!
Guests will typically take two game drives a day; early in the morning and then returning to the lodge for lunch and then from mid afternoon into the early evening. A full day game drive with picnic lunch or an extra drive in the daytime can generally be arranged. Drives will be with the same driver/guide throughout your stay and each party tends to have their own vehicle though small groups may be asked to share.

Day 6 : Morning flight to Nairobi, then onward connection to Mombasa. 7 nights Serena Beach Hotel DBB Fly back to Nairobi and then take an onward connection to Mombasa, where you are met and transferred to your hotel.
Serena Beach Hotel is a well-loved 5 star resort on Shanzu beach, about 15 minutes drive north of Mombasa. Shaded by soaring palm trees and draped in bougainvillea, the hotel overlooks a Marine Reserve whose coral barrier reef protects resident marine life as well as visiting turtles. Rooms are well-appointed; all have private balconies with vistas of the ocean or the courtyards. Village rooms are stylish and comfortable and Garden rooms have sea views. With many restaurants, bars and a whole host of activities and watersports, guests can be kept well-amused. However it is for its staff, attentive service and excellent cuisine that Serena stands out.

Day 13 : Return to Mombasa Transfer to Mombasa for onward arrangements.
