On Safari in Kenya Home / Kenya / Lake Victoria

Lake Victoria extension | Kenya | Lake Victoria

A stay at a fishing lodge on the shores of the largest lake in Africa makes a perfect contrast with a safari. Mfangano Island Camp is situated under ancient figs, in a secluded bay on the shores of an unspoilt island in Lake Victoria, source of the River Nile. The six rooms offer complete privacy, en suite bathrooms with bath and shower, basin and flush loo. Decorated in the ethnic style, all double rooms have four-poster beds and private verandas. The lake side of each room is open and offers uninterrupted views of spectacular birdlife, sunsets and of Luo fishermen following their centuries-unchanged craft.

Day 1 : Fly from the Mara to Lake Victoria. 2 nights Mfangano Island Camp, Full Board & Activities.
The early morning light aircraft flight to the Lake Victoria Airstrip gives a fascinating view of multicoloured undulating strips of land under small-scale cultivation, quite different from most other terrain over which you fly. Landing on the lake shore, you transfer to a boat for the short hop to Mfangano Island Camp. Formerly just a fishing lodge, Mfangano now offers great comfort and a variety of laid-back 'R & R'. Activities include boating, fishing, birding, visits to the local village and school and simply relaxing by the pool. The multi-level honeymoon suite here is a particular treat, with a 270 degree view of the lake, a shower carved in the rockface and a sunken double bath almost at water level.

Day 3 : Return to the Mara Airstrip, then fly to Nairobi.
Boat transfer, then flight back to the Masai Mara, then scheduled flight back to Nairobi.
