The Southern Cape is a bountiful area of gentle rolling green pastures, vineyards, forests and unspoilt coastline between the Cape Winelands in the West and the Garden Route. The southern coast boasts some of the finest land-based whale-watching in the world between July and early December, when the Southern Right Whales come right into the bays to give birth. Blue Gum lies in a picturesque valley close to Stanford and Hermanus. Here you can relax amid the tranquillity of the 130-acre estate, explore the private mountain reserve or stroll through the vineyards. A game of tennis or a refreshing swim in the pool are attractive alternatives. Day 11 : 3 nights, Woodall House, Near Addo Elephant Park, Bed & Breakfast Continue to the Eastern Cape for 3 nights in the Addo area staying at Woodall House
Addo is a notable success story. In 1919, the celebrated big game hunter Major Jan Pretorius was asked to exterminate all the elephant that often emerged from the Addo bushveld to destroy the crops of local farmers. Only 11 remained when a national outcry stopped the hunt. The elephants' survival was assured when a National Park was proclaimed. Alongside the thrill of close-up elephant encounters, it is now home to black rhino, lion, hippo, unique Cape buffalo, many species of antelope. Other activities in the Greater Addo Park include hiking trails, horse-riding and also elephant-back safaris in the Zuurberg Mountains.
Woodall is an idyllic escape, offering you peace and tranquillity. The six Cape-style luxury cottages and two suites all have private patios or sundecks for enjoying the fresh air, as well as air-conditioning, ceiling fan, separate bath and shower, outside shower, minibar, mini hifi, telephone, bathrobes and tea/coffee facilities. Indeed this five star country house lodge has recently added a wide range of health and beauty treatments, as well as daily game drives in Woodall's luxury open top game-viewing vehicle.
