This enjoyable rock art tour introduces the visitor, not only to the life and culture of the San (Bushmen) people but also to the natural beauty of their Cape homeland. Southern Africa has some of the best ancient Rock Art sites in the world. The rock art of the Western Cape and in particular the Cedarberg region, is one of the area's most appealing features and many of the paintings reveal high levels of artistic skill and a startlingly sophisticated understanding of artistic principles.

Day 1 : Depart Cape Town. Overnight Ndedema Lodge, Clanwilliam
Head to Clanwilliam, which lies at the foot of the Cedarberg mountains for lunch. The afternoon starts with a talk on Rock Art and visits to some nearby sites. Overnight at Ndedema Lodge, a stylish guesthouse in the historic Park Street of Clanwilliam, which contains a number of 1820 settler houses.

Day 2 : Overnight Oudrif Farm, Cedarberg
This morning you cross the scenic Pakhuis Pass where you will encounter extraordinary rocks and formations. Spend the morning on the Sevilla Rock Art Trail. You visit nine sites with some of the finest rock art in the district. After an alfresco lunch you continue to the delightful Oudrif Lodge on the banks of the Doring River for a personal tour to some delightful rock art sites. The greatest attraction of Oudrif is its wilderness setting.

Day 3 : Overnight Bushmanskloof Wilderness Reserve, Cedarberg
Today you drive to the mission village of Wupperthal, founded in the early 19th century and which remains quiet and seemingly untouched by the 20th century. Visit the Moravian Church and also the shoe factory and shop. En route back you visit Salmanslaagte rock art site and the Englishman's Grave. Continue to the luxurious wilderness lodge of Bushmans Kloof. Game drives bring guests close to the indigenous game.

Day 4 : Return to Cape Town
The morning begins with a walk to see some of the many Khoi-San rock paintings. Bushmanskloof is home to over 130 rock art sites dating back some 10 000 years and boasts one of the world’s largest open-air art galleries. After a leisurely brunch you meander back to Clanwilliam where you have time to visit the art galleries and craft shops if you so wish before heading back to Cape Town in the late afternoon.
