Day 1 : Depart Mfuwe for Nkwali Camp Depart Mfuwe by road for Nkwali Camp for 2 nights. Nkwali Camp is built on private land overlooking the South Luangwa National Park, on the banks of the Luangwa river. The land is superb game-viewing country, with a beautiful area of ebony woodland and open grass plains. This small camp of six thatched en suite chalets has an unusual bar encircling an enormous ebony tree and a dining room overlooking the lagoon. Elephants often cross the Luangwa and are seen from the bar, or come to the waterhole near the thatched dining room.
The chalets are cool and spacious, overlooking the river, and have an en suite semi-open bathroom with flush loo and double shower. There?s a honeymoon suite and family suite. The camp is open all year round and access to the park for most of the season is by boat or our nearby pontoon. Activities include walking, day and night drives and visits to the local village and school of Kawaza. The area is famous for leopard and giraffe sightings. There?s a small swimming pool. Transfer time from Mfuwe Airport is approx 40 minutes.

Day 3 : Game-viewing en route to Tena Tena camp in the northern sector Travel on to Tena Tena game-viewing en route. Tena Tena Camp is a renowned safari camp with a stunning location on a remote wooded bend of the Luangwa River within the Nsefu Sector of the National Park. "Tena Tena ?is altogether beyond superlatives, and must be one of the best safari camps in the whole of Africa" was what The Times of London declared. A grove of mahogany trees shades the five large custom-made tents (under thatch) with en suite open air shower rooms. Dramatic furnishings are complimented by stunning views and a private balcony. From the thatched dining room and bar guests can watch the elephants, hippo and antelope on the river banks. There?s also a honeymoon suite with twin basins and showers and a separate sitting and private dining area. Nearby there is a spectacular lagoon, Buca Buca, where a whole morning can be spent quietly sitting while the game comes down to feed and drink. Being remote and so small, camp guests have these scenes to themselves. Game viewing takes place on foot with expert trackers and experienced guides, or on day and night drives. Tena Tena pride themselves on their flexible approach to game-viewing with meals based around game-viewing and not the other way round!

Day 4 : Walk between Trails Camps Today you enjoy your walking safari from trail camp to trail camp in the Nsefu area where the channels and lagoons attract prolific game. The camp is simple but very comfortable, with stand up tents, shared bush loo and bucket shower. Meals are eaten under the stars and around the fire.
|
Day 6 : Walk to Nsefu Camp Return to civilization for 2 nights at Nsefu Camp. Nsefu Camp lies on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River in the exclusive Nsefu sector in the northern part of the park and is run by Robin Pope Safaris. The Nsefu Sector is a phenomenal area for game. This stylish and utterly charming camp overlooks the river and floodplain where game often grazes during the day and leopard are often spotted at night. Nsefu was among the first camps in the park, but the six spacious rondavels have recently been skilfully remodelled with a semi-open spacious en suite bathroom/dressing rooms and large windows added which open onto a wooden veranda with superb views of the river. The bar, tucked in beside a huge dormant termite mound, overlooks a waterhole that is very productive for game, especially leopard at night. An affable team offer great hospitality and game viewing takes place on foot or on day and night drives.
|
Day 8 : Return to Mfuwe After a final game activity, you are transferred back to Mfuwe, game-viewing en route, in time for your onward charter flight. END AT MFUWE
