Day 1 : Air charter to Phinda Game Reserve, 3 nights Mountain Lodge, Fully Inclusive
Fly by scheduled charter flight to Phinda Game Reserve for 3 nights game-viewing. Phinda offers a winning combination of soft adventure, thrilling game-viewing and inspired lodge design. Activities include game drives and exciting tracking walks, canoeing & sunset boats trips. Given the reserves proximity to the Indian Ocean, optional extras include coastal flights, beach excursions and snorkeling. Phinda Resource Reserve, which means 'the return', is a 15 000ha reserve to the north of Hluhluwe and the St Lucia wetlands. Rich both in game and in stunning scenery, Phinda boats the diversity of seven contrasting ecosystems, including sand forest, mountain bushveld and wetlands. Wildlife attractions include lion, elephant, cheetah, leopard, rhino, hippo, an abundance of general game, and prolific bird life (with over 400 species recorded). Mountain Lodge is a sophisticated harmony of ethnic dιcor, superb cuisine, and personalised service. Each of the 20 spacious split-level suites with private lounge and en suite bathroom, opens onto a private deck overlooking the reserve. The guest dining area, lounge, shaded terrace and bar lead out to cool verandas with spectacular views of the Ubombo Mountains and bushveld beyond. Children of 6 and upwards are welcome to join the game drives.

Day 3 : Children's activities at Phinda
On arrival at the camps all children are presented with a special eco-guide for planet-managers containing a quiz, a learning guide and tips for spoor and animal identification. Rangers will help the kids complete their eco-guides, help them collect pods, feathers, bugs and leaves and teach them to identify different animal species. When all the activities in the guide have been completed, the ranger will sign a certificate at the back stating that the child has graduated as a planet-manager.

Rangers take younger children (who are not able to take part in the adults game drives) on special ?Pooh Walks? on which they are taught to identify droppings and spoor. There are also fishing and frogging safaris (safety and weather permitting) and bark-rubbing expeditions. Then there are visits to the garage to oversee Land rover repairs and lessons in making waxed spoor prints, which can be taken home.

If they aren't exhausted after all this, the chef welcomes children's assistance in the kitchen while baking cookies for afternoon tea. If children are to eat in the boma, and there is a group, they'll have a special table set for them or given their own fire and marshmallows to grill over the coals - always under a ranger's watchful eye.

Day 4 : Transfer by road to Rocktail Bay Lodge, 5 nights, Full Board and Activities, Coastal Maputaland
Transfer by road to Rocktail Bay for 5 nights where you can be as active, or as lazy, as you choose.

The Maputaland Marine Reserve stretches 200km north from Lake St Lucia - one of the world?s finest marine sanctuaries teeming with water birds, crocodiles and hippo - to Kosi Bay. Within this reserve, the Kosi Forest Coastal Reserve is an unspoilt wilderness region of pristine golden beaches backed by forested dunes and captivating freshwater lakes. This truly is a magical area, untouched by large-scale tourism development. The intimate lodges practice sustainable tourism with significant local community involvement. Activities mostly revolve around the ocean and the lakeland system with snorkelling for tropical fish, canoeing and awe-inspiring evening excursions in the summer to view the rare giant leatherback turtles as they lay and hatch their eggs (Oct to Feb).

Rocktail Bay Lodge has a truly stunning setting behind forested sand dunes, metres away from virgin white beach. As befits the beach location, activities focus on the sea with snorkelling excursions to Lala Nek and Black Rock and excellent scuba diving. Other activities include nature walks through the coastal forest, horse riding and open 4x4 drives to Black Rock which will enthral naturalists and photographers. From October to March guests can participate in the Giant Leatherback Turtle Research programme. Accommodation is ?bush luxury? with wood and thatch ?tree house? chalets on stilts with indoor and outdoor showers under the forest canopy. The lodge has an inviting lounge, pub and pool. Home-cooked meals are enjoyed either in the dining room, at the pool or outdoors under a huge mahogany tree. This remote lodge is run in conjunction with the local community so you are welcome to visit to the nearby school and clinic.

Day 9 : Air transfer to Richards Bay
Air transfer to Richards Bay in time for onward flight.
