Nosy Be Extension | Madagascar | Nosy Be |
| Extend your holiday with some time on the islands off Madagascar's northwest coast. Nosy Be means 'big island' and is the largest of several beautiful islands off the northwest coast. But it also stands for wonderful seafood, beaches, chameleons and lemurs. The shallow beaches are not ideal for swimming and snorkelling but all hotels have pools and snorkelling and diving excursions can be made to smaller islands with wonderful coral life such as Nosy Komba and Nosy Tanikely. Diving, deep-sea fishing, snorkelling, quad biking, microlight flips can all be arranged through your hotel. |

Day 1 : 5 nights Hotel Vanila DBB Fly from tana to Nosy Be, for a five night stay. The town of Hell Ville is the best place for extensive souvenir shopping outside Tana: the bustling markets are full of embroidered white lace, colourful sarongs and wooden carvings. Another fast growing tourist centre is Ambatoloaka, the liveliest place on the island with even a nightlife of sorts!
|
Day 2 : Relaxing at Hotel Vanila Hotel Vanilla in Nosy Be is just one of those places you fall in love with, and is easily one of the best hotels on Madagascar with friendly staff, true Malagasy hospitality, a beautiful location and the most charming gardens. The Vanila hotel has recently completed its extension and now has stunning sea view rooms as well as rooms overlooking a beautiful tropical garden. The bedrooms are equipped with minibar, television, air-conditioning and an overhead fan. All these rooms have a balcony overlooking the garden, swimming pool and then the ocean, perfect for enjoying spectacular sunsets from your deck. On the top level are the suites; the Africa suite and the Malagasy Suite with Jacuzzi. There are two restaurants, one offering fine French and Malagasy cuisine, bars and a pool bar. You will usually have dinner accompanied by singing by the locals to give it a lively feeling. There are also two swimming pools, one of which consists of 3 pools cascading into one another.

Day 3 : Optional Excursions and Diving Optional Excursions Enjoy a full day excursion to the small mountainous islands of Nosy Komba and Nosy Tanikely. This island is often combined with Nosy Tanikely as a day excursion as it is known for the small lemur sanctuary. This is not a zoo as the animals are living free in the forest but they have learnt to descend in search of humans as a source of food. Its an artificial state but better than no conservation effort at all and even the most sceptical visitors seem to be enchanted, despite initial misgivings. The area around the sanctuary is sadly far from pristine, though. Nosy Tanikely is known for its excellent diving and snorkelling off the coral reefs.
Enjoy a full day excursion to Lokobe reserve, which is a small reserve known for brown lemurs. You are first transferred to Ambatozavavy village where you take a pirogue (dugout canoe) for a 40min boat journey over to Ampasipohy village and the Lokobe reserve. You spend the morning walking in the tropical rainforest of the reserve spotting the lemurs, chameleons, geckos and even snakes. You return to the Malagasy village for lunch.
Diving in Madagascar The islands of the South-west Indian Ocean are famous for their wonderful white beaches and warm, translucent waters brimming with colourful reef fish and dramatic corals. In short they?re a diver?s paradise. All offer a range of diving opportunities but it is the underwater scene off Madagascar, the wild Red Island, that is the least explored and therefore, perhaps the most exciting. Madagascar has escaped the ravages of mass tourism that has affected Mauritius and Seychelles and although coral bleaching, following the 1998 El Nino warming, has affected some of the shallower, more protected sites there are promising signs that the reefs are recovering. Diving in Madagascar is well controlled and professional. Nevertheless scuba diving equipment is not always available in the full range of sizes and makes, so if you are a serious diver and/or a non-standard size, then bringing your own dive gear is a sensible precaution. Please note that there are also no Hyperbaric chambers.

Day 6 : Return to Antananarivo This morning you have an early morning transfer to the airport for your morning flight back to Tana.
