Day 1 : 1 night, Manyara Serena Lodge, Lake Manyara, Full board & Game Activities On arrival in Nairobi you connect onto your Precision Air flight to Kilimanjaro. Depart Arusha and head towards Lake Manyara National Park. From whichever direction you approach Manyara, the first view is spectacular. From the east, the Rift Valley wall rises several hundred metres to form an impressive backdrop to the lake. From the west, if one is perched at the top of the escarpment, the park lies far below, with a long green strip of water that glistens in the sunlight. On arrival you enjoy an afternoon game drive and overnight at the lodge.
Day 2 : 2 nights Serengeti Serena Lodge, Full Board and Game Drives, Serengeti National Park After a morning game drive and lunch, you depart for the Serengeti and your lodge with game-viewing en route. This is your first chance to explore the vast plains and open lands of the Serengeti.
The Serengeti Serena reflects both the local culture and the surrounding environment. Set high on a hill with magnificent views of the sweeping Serengeti, the lodge is reminiscent of a traditional African village. Rondavels built in the time-honoured hut style, luxury bedrooms. Simple in design, yet sophisticated in content, the Serengeti Serena's decor highlights African arts and crafts, including woodcarving, bead making and pottery. Everything from key tags to headboards has been specially made.
Day 3 : On safari in the Serengeti National Park Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti National Park is home to an estimated 3 million plains game, the largest concentration of such wildlife in the world. In the local vernacular, Serengeti means 'the endless plains that go up to the sky'. And they do just that. It is therefore easy to understand why this is the most popular and spectacular of all game parks in East Africa. One of the striking features of this park is the series of large granite outcrops that dominate the vast plains, making it very different to the Masai Mara. Life in the park centres on the triangular trek of several million hooves.
Day 4 : 2 nights Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, Full Board & Game Drives Ngorongoro Crater Continue to Ngorongoro, stopping off at Olduvai Gorge for a picnic lunch. Continue to the Ngorongoro Highlands to your lodge which is perched on the rim of the crater overlooking the famous caldera below.
Your accommodation is at the stunning Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. Built of stone and covered with a profusion of flowering plants, the lodge feels as if it's actually part of the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. The result is a unique accommodation with unhindered views of the wealth of animal and bird life that fill the vast crater below.
Day 5 : On safari in the Ngorongoro Crater After breakfast, you'll descend through the early morning mists and 2,000 feet into the crater for a full day of game viewing with a picnic lunch. Ngorongoro Crater is the World's largest intact volcanic caldera and one of the World's seven natural wonders. A breathtaking sight, and an extraordinary place, the unique appeal of the Ngorongoro Crater is the sheer abundance of wildlife. Lions stalk the grasslands in search of vulnerable game; flamingos grace the shallow lakes, and yet the Masai still bring their cattle down into the crater to graze alongside huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and buffalo as they always have done. Late afternoon you leave the Crater and drive back to the lodge for the evening.
Day 6 : 1 night Zanzibar Serena Inn, Zanzibar Drive to Arusha for lunch followed by an afternoon flight to Zanzibar, where you will be met and transferred to Zanzibar Serena Inn for overnight. Zanzibar Serena Inn is restored Arab palace. It has a prime location right on the seafront overlooking a sandy beach where the fishermen ply their trade in traditional dhows. The 52 en suite bedrooms are air-conditioned and elegantly furnished with Zanzibari antiques and private sea-facing balconies.
Zanzibar is an alluring combination of rich slave-trade history and beautiful beaches; interspersed with villages, palms and orange gardens. Historic Stone Town, once the capital of a vast Arabic empire, is an atmospheric maze of narrow streets, street markets and coral stone steps.
Day 7 : 3 nights Fundu Lagoon, Pemba Island, Dinner, Bed & Breakfast This morning you transfer to the airport for the flight to Pemba, famous for its production of cloves. The beaches are pristine and an 800m deep channel divides Pemba from the mainland making this one of Africa's greatest deep sea fishing destinations. A road and boat transfer brings you to Fundu Lagoon, a secluded retreat hidden among the trees on the edge of 4km of white sand on a sweeping bay of sparkling clear azure. Designed to be eco-friendly, this lodge blends into the natural environment to create a rustic, friendly island retreat. With 20 self-contained bungalows, each with en-suite facilities and a secluded terrace, this sets the standard for comfort and romance in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Day 8 : Relaxing on Pemba Island The main activities include fishing, guided walks, kayaking among the mangroves, snorkelling and dhow sailing trips. Water-skiing and diving (the reef is renowned) are at an extra cost from the fully-equipped PADI dive centre. On the island itself, walking excursions through the forest reveal many native species of giant trees. The climate is tropical with a hot rainy season from November to April.
Day 10 : Return to Dar Es Salaam Transfer to the airport for a scheduled flight to Zanzibar and then on with a further scheduled flight to Dar es Salaam.
