Desert Express | Namibia | Swakopmund

The Desert Express is a luxury modern train with a glass-panelled roof in the lounge compartment for stargazing. This is a wonderful way to traverse the wide open spaces of Namibia. This luxury train travels through the desert from Windhoek to Swakopmund and vice versa, twice a week with a variety of excursions from the train.

Notes Direct Air Namibia flights on Saturday, returning Friday. Via Frankfurt on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, returning via Frankfurt Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday. Also via Johannesburg daily.
Day 1 : From Windhoek to Swakopmund, Dinner, Bed & Breakfast and Excursions
After departing Windhoek in the early afternoon, the Desert Express heads north until it reaches the Otjihavera Siding. Here you will be taken to the luxurious Okapuka Game Ranch to experience the excitement of watching lions being fed only meters away. When you're back on board, Desert Express continues its westward journey. Enjoy the sunset over the open vastness of Namibia in the Spitzkoppe Lounge or through the large windows of your compartment. In the Welwitschia Restaurant, a sumptuous three-course dinner awaits you. The train stops for the night at Kranzberg siding.

Day 2 : Train journey ends in Swakopmund
The Desert Express continues westward into the desert and behind the dunes between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. Here, there's a one-hour stop to allow passengers to disembark and take a walk to the dunes of the Namib. The train then proceeds to its final destination, Swakopmund.
