Fundu is on Pemba Island, the sister island of Zanzibar lying across the Pemba Channel to the north. The hotel is situated on a remote and beautiful beach on the south western side of the island and is only accessible by boat. Fundu Lagoon is the epitome of "bare foot paradise" with a distinct Robinson Crusoe air in a remote and not easily accessible location. It is a place for guests to relax and unwind in casual, yet elegant surroundings.
There are sixteen rooms, ranging from ocean view and beachside rooms to suites and superior suites. All rooms feature makuti (thatch) roofs on wooden decks, indoor and outdoor seating areas and have a view over the sea. The rooms are equipped with large double or twin beds, mosquito nets, ceiling and standing fans. Each has an en suite bathroom with fresh water shower, toilet and basin. Suites additionally feature a private plunge pool and private sundeck. Superior suites have the added luxury of a private chill out area, large private plunge pool, stone-walled bathroom and a queen sized bed. The accommodation connected to the main buildings by wooden walkways or paths through indigenous forest. Some rooms are situated along the beachfront and the remainder on the hillside; all have amazing views, especially the ones on the hillside.
The main areas are all built under thatch and are large and airy and overlook the sea. There’s an inviting infinity pool and a comprehensive spa offers a range of treatments from aromatherapy massages to salt and honey body scrubs. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the main dining area or the jetty bar with a three course lunch and dinner, all with a choice of dishes of the highest international standard. A jetty stretches way out into the sea and the jetty bar is situated about a third of the way along, offering a wonderful place to relax. There is a snack menu and the barmen are happy to mix your favourite cocktail for you.
The waters around Pemba offer excellent diving and snorkelling - the hotel has a PADI dive school and offers trips to nearby Mesali Island with a pristine beach and superb snorkelling and diving. Dhow sunset cruises and canoe safaris through the mangroves are also offered subject to availability and water-skiing and wake boarding are also available.
