Jaci's Tree Lodge, on the eastern side of Madikwe Game Reserve, is one of our favourite lodges in the malaria-free Madikwe. It provides a delightful and authentic African experience with vibrant colours and funky modern touches. Eight spacious 'tree houses' each encompassing a giant Tamboti or Leadwood tree, are located within the riverine forest on stilts, up to 4 metres from the ground. An open plan, en-suite bathroom with an enormous stone bath and outdoor 'jungle' shower" allow you to enjoy your forest surrounds. Burnt orange bean bags are on offer for relaxation on your private deck or in front of the fireplace. Raised wooden walkways, suspended in the forest canopy connect you with the main lodge.
The main lodge is open to the elements and incorporates elements of north African design with a funky bar and sitting area, a open dining area and off to one side a reading and relaxing sala complete with hammock to really help you chill. Relax, on your own private deck, in the hammock in the reading sala, or wander to the forest pool to cool off. Dinners are under the stars either in the boma or at a bush braai after the excitement of game viewing.
Jaci’s is particularly known for its child-friendly approach. Children of all ages are very welcome at Jaci's and can accommodate two, up to three at a squeeze, extra children to share with their parents. They have recently become more flexible about their children’s policy. They still encourage younger children, and their parents, to enjoy a separate ‘jungle drive’ which is shorter than normal. Its exact length depends on the interest levels of the kids on the drive. Parents are welcome to come along but must not behave like adults! However younger siblings of older children can now join the rest of the family, but subject to the ranger’s discretion and then try to place two families on the same game vehicle. The camp is fenced for your added security so that children can walk along the paths in safety. Given the height of the treehouses, I wouldn’t recommend Tree Lodge for very young children even though the wooden balconies are very secure.
