Limpopo, South Africa

Waterberg and Limpopo travel & malaria-free safaris

The Limpopo province boasts several under-publicized wildlife areas. All offer malaria free safaris which is perfect for children and family travel. This is a beautiful part of South Africa where wide open plains of bushveld stretch all the way to the Limpopo river. Rising out of these plains are the dramatic natural beauty of the Waterberg (2½ to 3 hours drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria) with its luxury game lodges, and the mysterious rocky outcrops in the far north around Mapungubwe National Park.

This is unspoilt Africa at its best with charming country towns, ancient cultural history and superb wildlife reserves. The Limpopo shares borders with three other countries – Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Botswana.

Many of our clients combine some time on safari in the Waterberg with Mashatu Game Reserve, (just over the border in Botswana), or the pretty Tzaneen area before heading to the Greater Kruger Park either to the Kruger National Park itself or to one of the adjacent private game reserves.

Another option is to follow Tzaneen with Mashatu and then travel east to the far northern part of the Kruger to the private concessions of Pafuri. En route you can visit South Africa’s newest National Park at Mapungubwe, home to an ancient civilization which rivalled Great Zimbabwe in its time.
