Highlights
• Excellent Battlefield tours
• Stylish contemporary lodge
• Excellent setting overlooking the battlefield of Isandlwana
Isandlwana Lodge, in the Natal Battlefields, is perched high against the iNyoni Rock in an unforgettable setting - stylish, romantic and thought-provoking. It was on this rock that the Zulu commander stood to direct the battle of Isandlwana on 22 Jan 1879. Rob Gerrard, renowned military historian, or one of his associates take you on battlefield tours to both Isandlwana and nearby Rorke's Drift which bring the conflict and the human drama to life. Thus we recommend that you stay at least two nights so that you can experience both of these tours. (Tours to other nearby Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer sites are also available by prior arrangement if you wish to stay longer.)
The main lodge consists of an open plan sitting room and dining area with a charming upstairs library full of interesting books and battlefields memorablia. The twelve stylish and contemporary rooms have private balconies, ideal for drinking in the stunning views over the valley amphitheatre as the sun sets. Two are slightly larger in size. Dinner is served in the candlelit dining room by two Zulu chefs. An inviting swimming pool is built among the rocks. Horse-riding, birding, walking and a cultural walk through the village with a local staff member, are also on offer at Isandlwana Lodge.
