Babanango Valley Lodge is a 10,000 acre private nature reserve in one of the loveliest valleys in Zululand. The lodge offers warm and attentive hospitality with country-style en suite bedrooms. Delectable dinners are served with silver and crystal by candlelight.
Guided tours include the Battlefields of Isandlwana, Rorke's Drift, Blood River and the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve. These tours are full day tours lasting 7 to 9 hours and include transport, entrance fees, picnic lunch and soft drinks. If a tour is not pre-booked, departures cannot be guaranteed. Other activities include 30km of well-marked walking trails, mountain biking and superb bird watching. We also strongly recommend a three night stay so that you can visit the community-based Zulu Heritage Village where you can delve into the customs and culture of the Zulu people and get in touch with the way current rural Zulu people live by also visiting a modern Zulu village. This is a fascinating experience and more in-depth than many offered elsewhere. Horse Riding is also available: a wonderful way to move around the private nature reserve. You can even choose to ride up through the hills to the Zulu cultural village (1 to 1½ hour drive). Babanango also offers Footprints in Time; morning and afternoon guided walks through the beautiful Babanango Valley which may incorporate visits to the stone age site, a rare isivivane and the ruins of the old copper mine.
Babanango Valley Lodge offers a wonderful environment for children. Children can share with their parents or take an adjacent room. Older children, probably from 10 years and up, will enjoy John Turner’s guided battlefield tours as he is used to taking school groups and thus knows how to gear his tour towards the younger generation. Younger children will be kept well amused back at the lodge with self-guided walks for the family and horse-riding. Babanango is able to arrange child minding easily.
