The South Coast of KwaZulu Natal stretches south from Durban towards the Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape.  It is a major holiday destination for land-locked South Africans from Johannesburg and elsewhere, with its pristine beaches and resort hotels. In general we find it a little too commercialised for our client’s tastes, however if you are a keen golfer, diver or heading to the Wild Coast then the South Coast is for you  as it offers vast golden beaches with crashing waves, several of KwaZulu Natal’s finest golf courses and excellent diving off Ailwal Shoals..

For keen golfers we recommend Selborne Country House & Spa set on its own 18 hole championship course and easy driving distance to a number of other top golf courses. Further south, keen ‘Foodies’ will love Lynton Hall both for its excellent cuisine and proximity to a number of the southern golf courses.

Just five kilometres offshore lies the internationally renowned Aliwal Shoal - a fossilised sand dune of sponges, soft and hard coral. Aliwal Shoal attracts not only a wide variety of warm, and cold-water fish, but also many ragged tooth sharks that offer an awe- inspiring and surprisingly safe adventure for divers!

Oribi Gorge, near Port Shepstone, is a photographer’s and birder’s paradise. The 24km gorge has high sandstone cliffs with unusual rock formations and is home to 268 bird species, 40 mammal species, but ironically not the tiny oribi antelope!  The terrain is rugged with boulder-strewn riverbeds, waterfalls and forested slopes, though there is also some open grassland.  From a birding perspective, the reserve is interesting as being the most northern point at which you may see the Knysna woodpcker and the forest birds of the Eastern Cape.
