Phinda Zuka Lodge is situated a relatively new area of Phinda Game Reserve, a 15,000ha private game reserve to the north of Hluhluwe and the St Lucia wetlands. Phinda Zuka is one of two private homesteads in the heart of the game reserve which are available on an exclusive use basis. Rich both in game and in stunning scenery, Phinda Game Reserve boasts seven contrasting ecosystems, including sand forest, mountain bushveld and wetlands. This diversity of habitat naturally attracts a variety of game including lion, elephant, cheetah, leopard, rhino, hippo and an abundance of general game. Phinda is particularly known for good cheetah sightings, and its prolific bird life (with over 400 species recorded). Guests at Zuka can tailormake their safari experience in consultation with their private ranger and can enjoy game drives, nature walks and river cruises. Given the reserve's proximity to the Indian Ocean, Phinda is able to offer optional extras such as coastal flights, beach excursions and snorkeling.
Meaning sixpence in Zulu, Zuka Lodge offers you an intimate and luxury way to enjoy the pristine wilderness of Phinda. Zuka Lodge comprises four intimate cottages and a central homestead. The air-conditioned cottages are set 15 metres (50 feet) apart and are extremely stylish in a soft contemporary décor. The bedrooms have a wonderful display of traditional Zulu hats with much use of vibrant colour. The bathrooms are particularly stylish with much use of stone, as well as a freestanding stone bath, huge circular double shower, separate toilet and twin basins. Each has a private veranda overlooking a busy waterhole where a diversity of game is regularly seen. There is a communal open plan sitting and dining area and separate reading room/library. Outside you can dine on the deck or up on the pool deck which adjoins the rimflow swimming pool with its views over the waterhole.
Phinda Zuka lodge is perfect for groups of friends or a larger family. Children are welcome though only one child (and also an infant in a cot) may share with parents in a triple room. Thus it would be best if the majority of children are old enough to sleep in their own chalet.
