Highlights

• Friendly and attentive hospitality of the Overberg region
• Homely and thoughtfully decorated accommodation in Swellendam
• The Hideaway has a stunning garden complete with 600 rose bushes

The Hideaway, situated in a quiet leafy road close to the main historical sights of Swellendam, is renowned for its hospitality. The Hideaway offers five large and thoughtfully furnished air-conditioned rooms in a peaceful garden setting, each furnished with fine handcrafted furniture and antiques. All rooms have luxury en-suite bathrooms, large sitting areas and with shaded/sunny outside patios to ensure the best possible relaxation. Teas, coffees, shortbread, beer, port, muscadel and soft drinks are all complimentary. Four of the bedrooms have separate entrances and overlook a rose-filled garden with over 600 rose bushes. The fifth bedroom, Homesleigh Suite, is in the main Victorian homestead with its own private lounge, front stoep overlooking front garden and Mountain View.

The Hideaway is famous for its breakfasts - either a sumptuous cooked breakfast, or an extensive continental breakfast, both served with homemade preserves, muffins, scones, croissants, and even a 'doggy bag' for a snack later in the day!

The garden is a delight with well-kept lawns. There are 600 rose bushes and three large beds of dahlias. Last year 14 000 roses were cut for the guest rooms. There are sheltered sitting areas where one can relax to watch and listen to the birds. The small pool is semi-enclosed and solar-heated, making it ideal for all-weather conditions.

Guests are invited to join their hosts and fellow guests in the comfortable lounge and sample local wines, before proceeding to the excellent recommended restaurants within walking distance in Swellendam. The Hideaway Guests are offered lifts to and from the restaurants. They also ensure guests get the most from a stay in Swellendam, with its interesting Drostdy museum complex depicting the Cape Dutch history of the town. Tours are also offered to the delightful Bontebok National Park.
