Day 2

Golf at Steenberg

Day 2

Surrounded by vineyards, Steenberg Golf Course is a parkland course in the verdant Constantia valley with extensive mountain and forest views. Designed by well known South African golf architect, Peter Matkovich, Steenberg offers some testing and varied golf with tee boxes amongst the vineyards, much use of water, and natural sand banks in the heathland.

The course features four distinct areas: wetlands, parkland, the Cape flats and fynbos. With five different tees, the course can be enjoyed by all, from championship to junior level. Visually spectacular and technically challenging, these are the sort of holes that make golfing a true pleasure.

In the afternoon you are at leisure to enjoy some of the sights of Cape Town. We recommend the cable car ride up to the top of Table Mountain for a breathtaking view of the Mother City (Weather permitting). Afterwards you may like to visit the historic sights of the city such as the Company Gardens, the SA Museum and the fascinating Cape Malay Quarter.

Day 3

Golf at Clovelly

This morning you enjoy 18 holes at the challenging Clovelly golf course. Clovelly Golf Course is scenically one of the best courses on the Cape Peninsula as it is more varied than many of the parkland courses. The lovely colonial clubhouse enjoys a slightly elevated position above the course which takes full advantage of its coastal setting with deep sand dunes encroaching upon the fairways. It is known for its rolling fairways, undulating holes and magnificent landscaping.  Wind also plays a significant factor at Clovelly!  A relatively quiet course, Clovelly is a tight par 72 with a testing mix of interesting holes and elevated greens accompanied by beautiful views of Silvermine River and lakes.

Sand dunes abound the course, which has natural water features and a wide variety of indigenous fauna and flora, notably the variety of trees lining the fairways.

Another plus point is that you can combine an early round of golf at Clovelly with a visit to the Cape of Good Hope in the Cape Point National Park.  Sir Francis Drake, the famous explorer, once called it "the fairest Cape that we saw in the whole circumference of the Globe."  You return along the Indian Ocean coastal road where you can stop to visit the unique penguin colonies at Boulders beach and drive through the naval base of Simonstown.

Day 4

Golf at Royal Cape

The oldest club in South Africa founded in 1885, the prestigious  Royal Cape golf course has a sense of history and tradition. It lies in the shadow of Table Mountain and has a flattish parkland layout fringed with lovely mature trees and enhanced by numerous established lakes.  This challenging course has been home to the South African Open on many occasions. Water comes into play on the 3rd, 4th and 5th holes, and later from the 14th to 16th holes and from every hole you enjoy superb views of Table Mountain. The 15th hole is a lovely par 3 requiring a finely judged shot over the water.

The course has fast greens which present a real challenge. Given its open layout it is exposed to the wind. On a windless day Royal Cape can be forgiving, but in a stiff breeze it can be an absorbing challenge, although the mature trees lining the fairways do help. The fairways are narrow, demanding accuracy off the tee. Wayward shots can be heavily penalized amongst the trees and the greens are well bunkered.

In all, the Royal Cape is one of the most exclusive of South African golf courses but also one of the most rewarding. There is a good practice range situated some way from the clubhouse and the golf shop is regarded as one of the finest in the Cape.

The afternoon is at leisure to relax or enjoy some sightseeing.

Day 5

Morning golf at Milnerton

Day 5

This morning you enjoy a round of golf at Milnerton before leaving for the Winelands arriving in the mid afternoon.

Milnerton Golf Course is one of only a handful of ‘out-and-back’ links courses in South Africa with superb views of Table Mountain across the bay, especially from the 19th hole. Indeed, built on sea sand, you could say it is the only true links course in Africa. It lies only 10-15 minutes north from the V&A Waterfront. Typically you play the first nine out, enjoy refreshments at the halfway house and then return to the clubhouse back via the second 9.
Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean on the one side and the Rietvlei lagoon on the other,  this lush course is relatively flat with few trees. Seven beautiful water holes wait to claim any wayward shots offering a truly unique golfing experience. The third tee provides a particularly good ‘picture postcard’ view of Table Mountain across the bay with the sandy beach and dunes running alongside the course for most of the way.

As it is on the Atlantic Ocean, in true links-style, the infamous Cape winds can affect major differences in your score between the first and the second nine holes! If the South-easter is blowing in the summer, affectionately known as the Cape Doctor, you will go out with the wind behind you and most of the first nine holes will be downwind. On the way back it will be a different story....

Afterwards you continue to the Winelands, an area of exquisite beauty with rocky mountains overlooking green vineyards. Oak avenues lead to elegant Cape Dutch wine estates and some of the most charming towns and villages in South Africa.

The gracious Cape Dutch buildings of Spier, built in 1692, have been restored to their former glory to create the Spier Hotel. 32 Cape-style cottages are clustered around six courtyards each with its own swimming pool and garden.

Day 6

Golf at Erinvale

Day 6

This morning you enjoy a round of golf on the Erinvale Golf Course. Erinvale is an ‘American-style’ parkland course designed by Gary Player. The setting is stunning with the Hottentot Holland mountains as a backdrop. However this beautifully manicured championship course boasts some of the country’s most challenging and spectacular holes.

The course has two distinctly different nine holes to challenge the enthusiastic golfer. Again water and bunkers feature heavily with the additional challenge of the gradients! Erinvale’s demanding front nine meanders through park-like terrain, whilst the back nine provide a contrasting challenge winding its way through the foothills of the mountains with panoramic views of False Bay. On the 15th hole you crest the hill and enjoy a spectacular view of Gordons Bay before you. Erinvale also has a driving range, putting green and chipping green for practice.

After the golf you have the rest of the day at leisure to explore the Winelands - perhaps visit Stellenbosch and one of the Cape wine estates for some wine-tasting and a cellar tour.

Day 8

Golf at De Zalze

Day 8

This morning you enjoy your final round of golf at De Zalze Golf Estate adjacent to Spier.

De Zalze Golf Course was designed by well known South African golf architect, Peter Matkovich who has made the most of this stunning setting and created a course that places a premium on accuracy. The course is set among vineyards and orange groves of the Cape Winelands, alongside the Blaauwklippen River. With magnificent mountain backdrops, this exquisite parkland course presents an exciting challenge to golfers of all standards.

The course has a memorable layout with many challenges, especially the second nine.  The oak tree lined Blaauwklippen River which winds its way through the golf estate comes into play at various intervals.  The short par-four 12th is played from an island tee over a large stretch of water to a green that can be driven if you're brave enough to carry the water. The par five with two fairways is another interesting hole set amongst the citrus trees.

The rest of the day is at leisure. During the afternoon you drive back to Cape Town airport (30 mins drive )where you drop your rental car in time for your onward travel arrangements.

Note: If you are adding a safari to this golf holiday then we will reschedule your final golf game for Day 7 so that you can depart early in the morning of Day 8.
