Spanning the verdant banks of the Sand River, Londolozi offers four exclusive camps where the raw splendour of the bush perfectly blends with luxurious accommodation. Londolozi, meaning "protector of all living things" in Zulu, is known for its far-sighted methods of bush clearing as a means of restoring the area to its original mosaic pattern of woodland and open grassland. The impact on the wildlife has been dramatic and today Londolozi has some of the best game viewing in the Sabi Sand game reserve.

Varty Camp was the original Londolozi camp and oozes with history and charm. It has a pleasant down-to-earth quality. Eight chalets and two suites all enjoy expansive river views over the boulders of the Sand river, and private plunge pools on their wooden decks.

The public area is raised off the ground and the soaring thatched roof echoes the cathedral of trees above with an expansive deck, alfresco dining area and a sitting area with roaring fires for the winter evenings. Londolozi's interesting history is on display with photographs of the early bush camp. Dinner at Varty Camp is served in their lantern-lit boma or perhaps on the dining deck, illuminated by lanterns, candles, bowls of dire and of course, a starlit sky.

Varty Camp is also home to the original Sparta Hunting Camp which has been turned into the John Varty Cinematography Centre with conservation films available upon request. There's a small spa here with a massage room and a small library. Varty Camp is also home to the original Sparta Hunting Camp which has been turned into the John Varty Cinematograpahy Centre with conservation films available upon request. There's a small Life Centre here for massages and a small library. Guests at other Londolozi camps are welcome to use these facilities.

With its emphasis on family heritage, children always have a place at Varty Camp. Londolozi offers an innovative family safari programme which doesn't just aim to keep children amused during their safari, but focuses on learning about Africa's wilderness areas. Children from 6 years up to teenagers join their 'Bush School'. This includes mammal behaviour, bird identification, plants and their medicinal uses, know your Land Rover, understand your weapon, Shangaan lessons, ecology and conservation on special game drives and walks. See Londolozi Game Reserve for more on Londolozi Family Safaris

Note: As each chalet has its own private pool, we would not advise Londolozi Varty Camp for very young children if the parents are aiming to relax!
