Kate's report on Mala Mala Camp 5*

Mala Mala does not aim to compete with the top game lodges on the quality of the interior decoration. It aims to provide a top game-viewing experience in a supremely comfortable environment. The lodge has a stunning setting over the Sand River with a feeling of openness and space. The main lodge is traditional with animal trophies (be warned!) on the wall but this was to emphasis the history of the area. Our room was very spacious but also very traditional. It had a lovely view over the river with French doors leading out to a wooden deck. There were large ‘his and hers’ bathrooms, one with bath and one with shower and two walk-in closets.

Game-viewing – I had probably the best ever game drive in the afternoon (leopard cubs, lion, elephant, pangolin (!) and a leopard kill which was then taken by a hyena), and a good morning drive with lion cubs, rhino and elephant."
