Luxury for Less at Leadwood Lodge
Stay for four nights, pay for three in 2010
Exeter Leadwood Lodge has a superb location looking down onto the boulders of the Sand River within the western part of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve. This is one of the most stylish & romantic of the Sabi Sand lodges and recommended for honeymooners. However it is a very modern lodge so if you are looking for a colonial ambience, then Leadwood Lodge is not for you!
The dining and sitting areas are elevated and have dramatic views over the confluence of the Sand and Mabrak Rivers. The clever use of steps and different levels creates intimate spaces for quiet game viewing or relaxing with a good book. Overall Leadwood lodge is an exciting tactile blend of boldly expressed materials with crushed stone, raw cement, dark meranti wood, rough granite and glass. If this sounds too masculine, it’s not. The textures are softened by the surrounded bush and good use of softer furnishings so that the overall effect is serene and welcoming.
Leadwood Lodge only has four suites, which are all quite a distance apart. Each suite is huge with a softly contemporary styled bedroom, sitting area and fireplace. Behind the bedroom is a dressing area. To the side is a spacious bathroom with free-standing bath and large walk in shower. Large glass doors lead out to the expansive wooden deck and your own lap pool which is of a decent size, and of course an outdoor shower.
Dinner is offered in a variety of settings, either on the open deck under the magnificent jackalberry tree or in the boma around a roaring fire.
The Sabi Sands is renowned for its exceptional Big Five game viewing given its rich soils which produce excellent grazing and browsing habitats. This attracts the plains game which in turn attracts the predators, most notably lion and leopard. Morning and afternoon game drives at Leadwood Lodge are on offer along with interpretative bush walks accompanied by professional rangers and trackers, usually after breakfast.
Children under 12 years are only possible if you take Leadwood Lodge on an exclusive use basis. In fact, with only four suites, Leadwood is perfect for a group of friends or a family party.
