Djuma Bush Lodge in the northern part of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is run by an enthusiastic and experienced team. Djuma Bush Lodge has long been a favourite among our clients who prefer a more casual, laid-back style of safari with the emphasis on an all-round experience rather than on 'ticking' species off a 'must see' list. The Djuma Bush Lodge safari experience allows unparalleled sightings of South Africa's Big Five, as well as cheetah, hyena, jackal, buck, giraffe, and zebra. It also offers the unique opportunity to learn about the history of the reserve and how the indigenous people once lived alongside the animals.

Djuma Bush Lodge is a comfortable camp with a delightful friendly atmosphere and eight simple thatched chalets with air-conditioning. They have recently cut away the thatch roofs (which were almost to the floor) and put in fully length windows which has improved the sense of space. However the bathrooms are small except for the bathrooms of the honeymoon chalets which have bath tubs and outdoor showers. There's a lovely swimming pool overlooking a well-used waterhole, an elevated viewing deck and library. Djuma's surrounding wildlife, excellent food, great service and warm atmosphere have our visitors returning time and again.

Morning and evening game drives are conducted in an open Land Rover with a professional guide. The tracking of wildlife is exciting, especially when it is one of the more elusive Big Five (leopard, lion, buffalo, elephant and rhino), who share the rugged bushveld with cheetah, hyena, wild dog, zebra, wildebeest, baboon and various species of antelope.

The northern part of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is accessed by Gowie Gate. Guests staying here can fly into Hoedspruit airport and take a one hour road transfer, or opt to have a short charter flight from the Kruger Airport. The road transfer from the Kruger Airport is much longer (2½ hours) so we recommend Hoedspruit!
