Kruger Park Safaris & Reviews of Private Safari Concessions in the Kruger

Sabi Sands Safari

The Kruger National Park is one of the finest game reserves in Africa - a vast wilderness of thorn trees, prolific game & sub-tropical heat. It covers nearly 2 million hectares and stretches some 400km from north to south along the border between South Africa and Mozambique. The Kruger Park is home not only to the Big Seven - elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, cheetah and wild dog, but also to an abundance of smaller, equally fascinating animals and birdlife.

The Kruger National Park can be divided into three distinct areas – the busy but game-rich southern area; the slightly more remote central Kruger Park between Skukuza and Letaba which also offers good game-viewing, and the wild and scenic far northern Kruger Park with the Pafuri and Makulele private concessions.

The Kruger National Park has dropped the fences between itself and the private game reserves of the Sabi Sands, Timbavati & Manyeleti, as well as open sections into Mozambique. This enhances breeding patterns as it restores the natural migratory routes of many animals.

Private Concessions
A number of luxurious private safari concessions now operate within the Kruger National Park such as the ultra-exclusive Singita Lebombo and Singita Sweni, Rhino Post Safari Lodge, Jock Safari Lodge and the family-friendly Lukimbi Safari Lodge. These safari lodges allow you to have a private game lodge experience within the Kruger National Park, with early morning and evening game drives in open 4x4 vehicles. Unlike the traditional Kruger restcamps, these private safari lodges are allowed to conduct night drives after the park gates are closed and off-road safaris to big five sightings such as lion or leopard. One Kruger Park concession, Rhino Plains Camp, even specializes in walking safaris.

Kruger Restcamps
A less luxurious, and less intimate, alternative is to stay at the traditional Kruger Park rest camps which are comfortable but basic. Your Kruger Park safari would be self-guided, though day and night drives are also available with park rangers at an extra cost. This is an inexpensive way to enjoy the delights of the Kruger.

A final alternative is to stay at one of the country lodges, such as Buhala Game Lodge or Kruger Gate Lodge which are only minutes from the park and offer a more convivial alternative to the Kruger rest camps. They also conduct open vehicle game drives into the park. Contact us to arrange your Kruger Park safari whatever its format…
