Notes:	Departs on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. Terrain varies from coastal to forest strolls (2A to 3B walking grading). Suitable for the average fit person. Climate is temperate with warm sunny summers and cooler, wetter winters

The Oystercatcher Trail is one of a new type of walking trail in South Africa where you combine the joy or a multi-day hike without the struggle of having to carry all your own gear, cook your own evening meals and stay in very basic walking huts. This five day coastal trail is in the western part of the Garden Route. The 46km trail starts at St Blaize Point in Mossel Bay and heads west along a wild coastline to the Gouritz River Mouth. All luggage is portered to the overnight stays, so that you only need to carry a daypack and binoculars. Along the way you take in archeological treasures, enjoy swimming stops on the sandy beaches and of course can spot the endangered African black oystercatcher and a diverse array of bird and marine life including dolphins and whales in season (July to November).

What is slightly unusual about this trail is that there is some flexibility – for example there is a four day version if you don’t have time for the the five day trail. You are guided by a trained and passionate walking guide who’s knowledgeable about the coast, its flora and its fauna. This is not an arduous trail and is suitable for all of average fitness.
