Description

This unique Eastern Cape coastal walking trail offers you the opportunity to walk a section of the magnificent Wild Coast, a nature lover's paradise. This is one of a number of new "slackpacking" walking tours available in South Africa which combine the excitement and enjoyment of a multi-day hike through beautiful countryside but with the added comfort of accommodation and meals provided and, as importantly, your luggage is transported to your overnight accommodation so that all you have to carry is your daypack.

On the Wild Coast Meander, you will encounter long lonely beaches, river estuaries teeming with marine life, river fauna and majestic views. The trail covers a distance of 55 km and offers some interesting and slightly challenging aspects with river crossings, hiking over headlands, beach walking and crossing the Kei River on a pontoon. However overall the terrain is fairly easy with short distances travelled each day. Daily walking distance ranges from 6km up to one longish day of 21km. Every night is spent in comfort at one of the Wild Coast resort hotels, traditional 2 or 3 star hotels where you enjoy wonderful cuisine and warm hospitality. As the terrain is relatively easy, no great fitness is required. Guides and porters from local Xhosa communities accompany you every day, sharing their local knowledge, customs and culture with you.
