Lalibela private game reserve comprises of three lodges within 7,500ha of Big Five malaria-free bushveld. Lalibela Marks Camp offers game drives in an open 4x4 vehicle with an experienced game ranger, bringing you face to face with a multitude of game species. These species range from mighty elephant, lion, rhino and buffalo to tiny blue duiker and rock hyrax. Night drives at Lalibela focus on the elusive bat-eared fox, aardvark, black-backed jackal and aardwolf. All of the animals, including the predators, are free-roaming throughout the entire reserve. Lalibela spans five eco-systems, (valley bushveld, savannah grassland, fynbos, riverine forest and acacia woodland), resulting in a huge diversity of fauna and flora which is a true South African experience. African wild dogs, spotted hyena and more lion have just been reintroduced to Lalibela.

Mark's Camp is a child-friendly game lodge, approx 30 mins drive into the Lalibela Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape. Marks Camp main lodge is decorated in a relaxed Pan-African style. The lodge sleeps up to 20 guests in seven chalets including 3 family chalets. Each comfortably furnished chalet has an en-suite bathroom and there is a ceiling fan for those warm African summer nights. The chalets at Marks Camp open up onto a private deck with views over the waterhole where game often come to drink. Between game drives, you can relax in the lounge, bird watch from the viewing decks or laze around the swimming pool.

At Lalibela Marks Camp, food is true safari cuisine with an emphasis on local specialties, ranging from centuries-old recipes to exciting contemporary African dishes. Enjoy brunch on the deck whereas dinner is either in the outdoor dining boma for fireside dinners or around the massive communal table in the gracious indoor dining area where you can swop stores of your day's safari game-viewing.

Children are very welcome at Marks Camp, and share a family room, which has 2 built-in bunk beds plus a foldaway bed separated from the parent's bedroom by a reed partition. Children under the age of 8 are not allowed on adult game drives, but are fully supervised and entertained with their own special 'kiddies drives' and various other games and activities.

Activities for children are filled with creative African arts and crafts and bush skills. From clay projects, candle making and beading to tracking spoor around the Marks Camp lodge, making plaster cast moulds of the spoor and painting them. Younger children eat earlier, whilst parents are out on a game drive and then when parents return from their game drive, the younger children can enjoy roasting marshmallows over the fire and listen to exciting stories of Africa, its people and the wildlife whilst parents enjoy dinner.
