Shamwari was the original malaria-free game reserve in the Eastern Cape and remains at the forefront of conservation in the area. One of Shamwari's strengths is that it lies at the convergence of five ecosystems and this diversity supports the Big Five
(elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo) as well as varied antelope and a rich birdlife. This beautiful 20,000ha malaria-free reserve is situated in the verdant bush along the Bushmans River, between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown. Luxury accommodation is offered six game lodges on the reserve, quite diverse in their appearance. As well as morning and afternoon game drives with experienced and well-trained rangers, you can relax at the Spa or visit the two Born Free Big Cat Sanctuaries based at Shamwari. Over the years, Shamwari has won many awards including the World's Leading Conservation Company and Game Reserve.

Shamwari is at the forefront of sustainable eco-tourism. Conservation at Shamwari is about the development, management and rehabilitation of the Eastern Cape bushveld to create a sustainable eco-system through the ongoing implementation of conservation principals. Their wildlife department includes a breeding centre, an education centre and a team of ecologists, enviromentalists and game-management experts.

The restored Edwardian mansion of Long Lee Manor overlooks Bushman's River Valley and its sweeping plains and captures the spirit of a bygone era. The Manor was built in 1910 and offers an unashamedly colonial safari experience with much use of wood panelling, historical photographs and paintings, and refined luxurious furnishings. Long Lee accommodates 38 guests in its elegant classically decorated bedrooms all with air-conditioning and heating, television and full bathroom with bath and shower. You have the option of enjoying traditional cuisine in the main dining room or outside around a blazing fire at the Barn. There's also the magical river lapa for a dinner in the African bush. There's also a spa at Long Lee Manor.

Activities at Shamwari include morning and afternoon game drives in open landrovers with well-trained rangers who are extremely knowleadgeable. During the heat of the day, the manor offers plenty of spaces to relax with a good book or a drink, perhaps around the swimming, in the garden lounge or on in the gardens. Alternatively why not try one of their many rejuvenating spa treatments at the Spa.
