  • Prices from $1609.00
  • 3 nights

Day 1

Depart Port Elizabeth for overnight stay in Grahamstown

You will be collected from PE airport by our representative and transferred to Grahamstown for an overnight stay.

This Spirits of the Past Safari combines a superb cultural tour with well known guide & raconteur, Alan Weyer, with a two night luxury safari.

You experience a rare and unique insight into the lives of the people who made up this distinctive region. During the 1800's the intrepid British settlers, German immigrants, Dutch entrepreneurs and European explorers left their shores to begin a new life on the southern-most region of the African continent - the region of  the spiritual San people and the mighty AmaXhosa.  What awaited them in this region of wide horizons eclipsed their wildest imaginings. This is a story that must be heard - of frontier wars, pioneering spirits and heroic people bound together by indomitable determination and gritty humour.

You arrive at lunchtime in time to relax prior to your afternoon tour with Alan Weyer, a former Tour Guide of the Year winner. In the mid afternoon you head off to Signal Hill outside Grahamstown where Alan gives an in-depth overview of the regions proud history of spectacular battles and courageous people that will add a new dimension to a visit to the Eastern Cape. You return to the lodge to freshen up before enjoying dinner.

7 Worcester Street is a small boutique hotel in the historical town of Grahamstown which offers luxurious accommodation and understated personal attention for the discerning guest.  10 exquisitely appointed suites are situated either in the manor house itself or the pool annex and have king-size beds, sitting areas, television, minibar and indulgent bathrooms!

Days 2 & 3

On Safari in the Eastern Cape

This morning, you have some time at leisure to perhaps enjoy a walking tour of Grahamstown (self-guided) or relax around the gardens. In the late morning you are collected by our representative and transferred to Shamwari Game Reserve to Bayethe Tented Lodge where you spend two nights. (Note: You can also opt to stay at one of Shamwari's other lodges such as Long Lee Manor or Riverdene Lodge at no change in the safari price.)

Bayethe Tented Lodge is Shamwari's tented lodge of twelve suites with a true authentic bush feel and yet still very luxurious.

Pattern of Safaris at Shamwari Game Reserve
You enjoy a game drive immediately after early morning tea and coffee, as the animals rise early to hunt in the cool of the day. The three hour drive finishes in time for a late breakfast, which will be keenly appreciated after your early morning start! After breakfast, you can go on an optional guided walk into the bush with a ranger, or you can simply relax around the lodge during the heat of the day. Afternoon tea is served just prior to your late afternoon game drive. This drive will introduce you to some of the nocturnal animals and their predators as they become active and begin to hunt. You stop for drinks at sunset to enjoy the sounds and smells of the bush before continuing with the night drive. Afterwards you return for an atmospheric dinner back at the lodge.
