Today you leave the city and drive only a short distance to the Spier Estate close to Stellenbosch to stay for 2 nights.

The Spier Hotel on the historic Spier Estate offers plenty for you to do without needing to venture off the estate. The gracious Cape Dutch buildings of the Spier Estate, built in 1692, have been restored to their former glory to create the Spier Hotel. 32 Cape-style cottages are clustered around six courtyards each with its own swimming pool and garden.

The surrounding estate offer horse riding through the vineyards, tennis at one of the three courts (one of which is floodlit), hiking and mountain biking on the estate, swimming, golf at the De Zalze estate, or children love visiting the Cheetah Outreach project and Bird of Prey rehabilitation centre. The Cheetah Outreach and Eagle Encounter projects are both part of South Africa's conservation effort to assist with reintroducing wild animals and birds to their natural habitat.

Travel to Hermanus, 2 nights

Today you leave the city and drive to Hermanus (approx 1½ hours) to stay for 2 nights at Lagoon Lodge on Mosaic Farm near Hermanus.

The Hermanus area is a bountiful area of gentle rolling green pastures, vineyards, forests and unspoilt coastline. Head to Addo Elephant National Park, 3 nights

Continue to the Eastern Cape for 3 nights in the Addo area staying at Woodall Country House

Addo is a notable success story. The elephants were being shot in the early 20th century as they were destroying the crops of local farmers. Only 11 remained when a national outcry stopped the hunt. The elephants' survival was assured when a National Park was proclaimed and now Addo has the densest concentration of elephant in Africa. Alongside the thrill of close-up elephant encounters, Addo is now home to black rhino, lion, hippo, unique Cape buffalo, many species of antelope.
