Uganda is luxuriant and fertile; a varied landscape with vivid green forests, snow-capped peaks, low swamps and lakes. People are friendly and welcoming to the small numbers of overseas visitors. This is undoubtedly an adventure destination, with an edginess that sets it apart from neighbouring Tanzania and Kenya. The country’s hard-fought renaissance as one of Africa’s finest wildlife destinations is periodically halted by troubles not of its own making, but the ‘pearl of Africa’ is worth the price of discovery. Mass tourism is simply unknown.
