New Lake Malawi Lodge

The new Robin Pope Safaris lodge, Pumulani, at Cape Maclear on Lake Malawi was officially opened at the start of July. This camp promises very well, not least because it's the brainchild of Jo and Robin Pope, who run some of the best safari camps in Zambia. The management couple are Mark McKenzie and his fiancée Jenna and the whole project has been overseen with care and enthusiasm by Margaux de Rooy.

The luxurious lodge is set on a hillside, 156 steps up from the shore of Lake Malawi. From its commanding position there are spectacular views of the setting sun in all its African glory. As well as the usual lake attractions of swimming and snorkelling from the large private beach, Pumulani offers sunset lake cruises in their own forty-foot dhow. The signs are that Pumulani will quickly take its rightful place among Malawi’s popular luxury destinations.
