Activities for older children at RiverBend Game Lodge
RiverBend, at Addo in the Eastern Cape, has pulled off the tricky art of appealing equally to families and couples for some years now. They’ve just announced some new and exciting activities for older children:

  • Bush walks with experienced field guides.
  • Citrus tours to the RiverBend orchards - the Sundays River Valley is the largest Citrus growing area in South Africa. Join the River Bend citrus manager on an informative tour, picking your very own oranges in season!
  • Join the reserve manager and rhino expert, Jed Bird on a rhino monitoring drive, checking camera traps and gaining an insight to these endangered animals.
  • Reptile and rapture presentation. Come up close and personal to some of South Africa's largest snakes!

These children's activities are included in the rate, except for the Reptile & rapture presentation. More on activities for kids (and others) at RiverBend

Children's facilities and activities at Riverdene Lodge, Shamwari
The Eastern Cape, being malaria-free and close to the airport at Port Elizabeth and to the popular beaches of the Garden Route, is ideal for families on safari. Neighbouring Shamwari Game Reserve is also in the news as they have launched specialised facilities for children at Riverdene Lodge

Riverdene Lodge features two supervised playrooms for children activities, spacious green lawns with a jungle gym, sport and social programmes such as soccer, cricket, treasure hunts and swimming will be arranged to entertain children. Furthermore, a special kids menu is available, and dedicated qualified child minders are on hand at all times.

Upon arrival, each child will receive a Born Free Foundation certificate and a fluffy toy. Special daily educational game drives for children (from the age of 4 years) with parents will be organized with specific trips to the Born Free Rescue Centers and the Shamwari Film Studio. Here, the children will be introduced to the Shamwari and Born Free Foundation’s challenge in promoting the conservation of species and the protection of habitat whilst maintaining a human and compassionate approach to the welfare of animals.

At the Shamwari Film Studio, the children will be shown where the popular international series of ‘Unearthered 1 and 2’ were filmed, produced and edited. Plus they will also be exposed to a new wildlife series which is to be launched during September this year.

Finally, children staying at Riverdene Lodge will also be invited to take part in the special educational programme at the Shamwari Animal Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre.
