Madagascar 2007 - Mr & Mrs Hopkins

"My wife and I are dedicated amateur birders and wildlife enthusiasts now in our 70s and have travelled the world in search of the exotic and extraordinary. The magical and mystical island of Madagascar, with its unique lemurs and large number of endemic birds, had never been an easy destination to reach or explore, but with my wife being a long term sufferer from Multiple Sclerosis and with her mobility deteriorating rapidly, we decided to make a huge effort and head for Madagascar. Travelling with a group has not been an option for us for a long time and finding an organisation able to deal with our logistical problems has never been easy – or generally affordable.  However, we came upon Cedarberg Travel and from the moment we contacted Ginny, Managing Director of the Company, we knew that we were in capable hands and all our logistical problems would be catered for.

Indeed, her enthusiasm, care, and attention to detail were second to none and from the moment we touched down in Madagascar, we knew that we had nothing to worry about as ALL our needs were met - from the mode of transport in a 4X4 with driver (and a step to help my wife into the vehicle!), our own naturalist guide, and very comfortable accommodation - nothing was left to chance. We cannot speak too highly about the treatment we received from Cedarberg, Ginny and her colleagues and we commend them to all who have ever considered a visit to that magical island."

Adrian worked with Ginny to decide on the right combination of lodges and regions which would enable Valerie to see as much as she wanted, secure in the knowledge that a guide and vehicle would be close by, should she get tired. They spent a leisurely four days in the Andasibe-Mantadia area, staying at Vakona Forest Lodge and then a further five days at Anjajavy on the north-west coast of Madagascar. Here, Valerie and Adrian managed to see a fosa right in front of their room, as well as seeing fat-tailed dwarf lemurs and sportive lemurs on night walks.
