Overview

  • Siwandu is a long-established operation in Selous Game Reserve
  • Very spacious tented accommodation of a high standard
  • Stunning lakeside setting
  • Overnight fly-camping in the Selous Game Reserve
  • Game walks & boat safaris as well as 4x4 game drives at Siwandu

Siwandu offers 13 good-sized luxury tents divided into two separate camps - so that it never feels too busy. The tents, set in mixed woodland, are beautifully located on the banks of Lake Nzerakera. This long-established camp is in the heart of one of the best game areas in the Selous Game Reserve.

The comfortable lounge, dining and bar areas of both camps - north and south - are very similar with comfy sofas, African art and wooden furniture. The only difference is that the communal areas at South Camp are elevated on stilts with sweeping views. A generous shaded swimming pool at each camp, surrounded by wooden deck with pool loungers - allows you to cool down or even exercise off the effects of abundant and delicious cuisine on offer. Dining is usually an outside affair at Siwandu on one of the many decks.

Tented safari and activities

Raised on wooden platforms and well-spaced for privacy, each tent is well-furnished at Siwandu with locally made furniture and full length mirrors. They have a dressing area, brass hand basins and flush loo, outdoor shower and spacious furnished verandas (one at the front and another at the back). The tents are octagonal to maximize air flow and are identical at the two camps.

Varied and flexible game activities are on offer at Siwandu including interpretive game-drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles and guided bush walks led by professional rangers. There are also water based activities including game-viewing from intimate riverboats as well as fishing for catfish or tigerfish.

Fly Camping is also a possibility, subject to a supplement and pre-booking.

Siwandu Tented Suites

Broadly spaced along the lakeshore, Siwandu’s superbly appointed accommodation ensures maximum privacy and every opportunity to soak up the sights and sounds of Selous. From either of the wooden decked verandas sit with a cup of tea at sunrise watching the bush come to life, or relax with a gin and tonic as the bush blushes under sunset.

The ten spacious octagonal tents of canvas and secure mosquito netting and topped in thatch, not only allows for constant air-flow, but also enables guests to gaze upon the animals as they saunter past. Observe them while reclining on the majestic king sized bed under the overhead fan or from the open-air stargazer, solar-heated showers which adjoin the en suite bathrooms.

For that intimate, uninterrupted, bush experience, Siwandu is perfect for forgetting all the troubles of the modern world and immersing oneself in unspoilt nature with just the right amount of bush luxury.
