Overview
Saadani River Lodge is the only game reserve on the Tanzania Coast. Hidden in the shade of trees on the southern bank of the Wami River close to Saadani National Park is the unexpected luxury of Saadani River Lodge. The stilted luxury guest suites have a prime view of the hippo and crocodiles who enjoy the cool depths.
Accommodation
The 17 stilted suites of Saadani River Lodge are the epitome of ‘luxury, naturally’, built for rest and relaxation. The guest tree houses blend into the natural scenery on their stilts with traditional thatched roofs. In addition, for the ultimate secluded escape, River Lodge’s Wami Suite is a private villa with its own infinity pool, two bedrooms and bathrooms, a living room and dining room.
Seasonal closure: The lodge is generally closed in April and May.
Activities and Game Viewing
Although peace and seclusion is a key attraction, there is plenty to do on both land and water since the lodge benefits from its location on the Tanzania Coast and near the Saadani National Park. You can swim and snorkel in the lagoon, abundant with turtles in season or sail out to sea to look for dolphins. Walk into the village and see something of the life of local villagers and fishermen. Take a boat safari among the hippos and crocodiles on the Wami River and game drives to look for elephant, giraffe, buffalo and lion.
Because this park is barely on the average tourist’s radar for Tanzania, there are very few other visitors and the guides do not have to fight for access to sightings. Instead they can focus on making each guest’s experience special. You might have to work a bit harder here to see game than in other parks, but there is ample compensation.
Back at the lodge, the in-house spa provides indulgent massages to enjoy between activities.

Stilted Suite
The 17 stilted suites are built from Pinewood, Mtondoro hardwood and Teak wood and are covered in traditional thatching. With en-suite bathrooms over looking the river and private balconies, our guests are never far away from nature. Four of the suites also feature air-conditioning.
Wami Suite
For the ultimate secluded escape, River Lodge's Wami Suite is a private villa with its own infinity pool, two bedrooms and bathrooms, a living room and dining room. Hidden within the lush jungle, this villa is perfect for our guests who wish for ultimate relaxation and an intimate environment.
