Little Oliver’s

CEDARBERG RATING

Overview

Little Oliver's is the baby brother Oliver's Camp, just 1km downstream and overlooks the Minyoyo Pools flood plain that forms part of the river in Tarangire National Park. This exclusive camp comprises of only 5 luxury, en-suite tents.

The spacious tents are beautifully appointed with furniture made from reclaimed dhow wood and the large decks maximize the views over the animal packed swamp ahead. One of the tents is larger in size and can accommodate 3 people. The tents at Little Oliver's have both indoor and outdoor showers, allowing for a shower under the African stars. Each tent has a large viewing deck from where you can sit and enjoy the thrills of various wildlife passing through from a very close distance in the Tarangire National Park. The intimate size of this camp makes it ideal for groups of friends or family who want to take it on an exclusive basis.

Game-viewing at Little Oliver's

Just like the original Oliver's Camp, Little Oliver's is very suited to safari enthusiasts with it's authentic walking safaris, game drives and night drives. Although the guided walking safaris in Tarangire National Park are something you cannot afford to miss, if you want to get really close to nature, you have the option of a full on 3 day fly-camping safari adventure. With an expert armed guide and his team always at your side, you can get tantalisingly close to the larger mammals. You can enjoy this exhilarating experience knowing you are in the safe hands of your guide.

Mari’s review of Little Olivers Camp

Located in the remote south-eastern sector of Tanzania’s Tarangire National Park, Little Oliver’s Camp is set downstream from its famous sister, Oliver’s Camp.

This camp overlooks a floodplain of the Minyonyo Pools that form part of the Tarangire River system. This uncrowded sector of the park has habitats ranging from open grassland to forests of ancient baobabs, and is home to large herds of buffalo and elephant as well as a substantial population of big cats.

I expected the lodge to be more luxurious but it is intimate and quite rustic. There are lovely views from the rooms and they all have an en suite bathroom with flush loos, indoor and outdoor showers. Large gauze windows allow for the passage of cooling breezes, and there are electrical sockets to charge your camera batteries and other gadgets. There was wifi in the rooms but not the main areas which I quite liked as it meant that people chatted when all together and didnt stare at their screens.

As there are only five rooms, we sat around a communal table at night. The food was simple but good. The guiding was good with lots of elephant and buffalo and the birding was very good.

As it was so small, Little Olivers would work for family parties or friends as they could take it on an exclusive use basis.
