Situated at the small fishing village of Cape Maclear, Danforth Lodge is an owner-run lodge offers comfortable well-appointed accommodation with a strong focus on watersports and yachting. Accommodation comprises 8 spacious en suite bedrooms simply decorated in cool, nautical colours, all opening onto a large patio, rolling lawns and wide beachfront with views to Thumbi Island. One of these is a family suite with a children’s room with own toilet adjacent to the main bedroom. Another is a large family room which has extra beds for children.
The lodge tries to accommodate mainly couples outside of the school holidays and mainly families within the holidays to ensure a good mix of people.
Activities at Danforth Lodge
A PADI scuba diving centre, water sports and activities are all on site and easily accessible to guests including snorkeling, water skiing, wake boarding, mountain biking, nature walks, cultural visits. Generally non-motorised activities are complimentary. Other facilities include the swimming pool, pool table, table tennis and a trampoline for younger visitors. Scuba diving & motorised watersports are available at an extra cost.
Danforth Lodge operates on a full board basis including three meals plus teas/coffees, afternoon tea & pre-dinner canapés, and they have a good reputation for their food.
Danforth Yacht Mufasa
Howard, the owner of Danforth Lodge takes guests on tailormade yachting trips of anything from 1 to 4 nights. Longer excursions can visit some stunning area of the lake which are only accessible by boat such as the hot springs. The 38 foot ocean-going catamaran Mufasa has four double cabins, two bathrooms, a galley, saloon and cockpit under shade. It is equipped with six sets of scuba gear, as well as snorkelling and fishing equipment. It can be booked by 6 people for shorter trips and 4 people in comfort for longer excursions to allow enough space for guests and 3 crew members. Unfortunately the yacht is not suitable for children and young teenagers under approx 14 years.
