Jaci's Safari Lodge & Jaci's Tree Lodge | South Africa

[South Africa Hotels and Accommodation]
Jaci's Game Lodges consist of two separate game lodges, Jaci’s Safari Lodge and Jaci’s Tree Lodge, in the middle of the magnificent Madikwe Game Reserve.

Jaci’s Safari Lodge is a stylish game lodge with a relaxed and intimate safari ambience. 11 expansive canvas-under-thatch suites each have an open plan bathroom with a hand built ‘rock’ bath and outdoor shower and private decks for peaceful game viewing. The Safari Suite is slightly larger and has a mezzanine area suitable for older children (8 years and over) whilst the two-bedroom Nare Suite is an exclusive bush retreat with its own pool. The appealing thatched main lodge at Jaci’s Safari Lodge has a spacious lounge with a large central fireplace, an open plan kitchen/dining room, upstairs bar and library.

Jaci's Tree Lodge features eight classy ‘tree houses’ on stilts, (up to 4 metres from the ground), within the riverine forest encompassing giant Tamboti and Leadwood trees. An open plan bathroom with luxurious oval stone bath and outdoor shower allow you to revel in the sylvan surrounds. Relax on your sundeck, on a hammock in the reading sala, or wander to the forest pool to cool off.

At both lodges, you enjoy a starlit dinner with fire-cooked meals either in the boma or at a bush braai after the excitement of game-viewing. Morning and evening game drives with experienced game rangers allow time in the middle of the day for relaxing around the lodge.

Children are very welcome and are specially catered for. One or two extra campbeds can be placed in suites. Younger children under 8 years old enjoy special kid’s drives (shorter drives after breakfast). There are early suppers available whilst older children and adults are on the evening game drive. Jaci’s also offers a Specialist children’s safari programme which for be booked for an extra cost (half day programme). Activities will include bush craft, inspector and detective trails, animal tracking, birds of a feather, touch tables, river safaris, game drives and walks to name but a few of the activities and experiences that are available.

Dave stayed at Jaci's in March 2006:
"Game-viewing - very happy with the quantity and quality of the game-viewing experience. We saw a lot of game, including 4 male cheetah. What I liked was the depth of the game-viewing. On most drives we saw elephant herds or single bulls 2 or three times; we saw buffalo three times during our stay, rhino about 3 or 4 times. There was also lots of general game on view – zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, impala, red hartebeest, warthog, and many beautiful eagles. Our guide, George, was excellent – very friendly, knowledgeable, warm and cool under pressure.

Tree Lodge - This is a stunning lodge with a contemporary African feel with north-African influences (Moorish arches and designs). The air-conditioned rooms were gorgeous - on stilts with a very private deck and very spacious inside (so children can easily be accommodated). The bathroom/bedroom is open plan. The bathroom area is hidden slightly from the bedroom and has a huge stone bath which was filled and ready when we came back from game drive. (A very nice touch). Outside shower, double basins and enclosed loo. Modern touches like giant orange suede bean bags for flopping down to read a book. (It was much nicer than it sounds!)

The Main lodge was very open (so perhaps not ideal for June) with a four-sided fireplace with brightly coloured mosaic fire hearths. Open fireplace on the deck for summer dining or dining under the thatch in winter. There’s a separate reading sala with comfy sofas, books and a hammock. The pool is away from the lodge (good to keep any kid’s noise) and quite small.

Safari Lodge - This was the first lodge and generally more cosy in feel. There’s a greater emphasis on the lodge (as opposed to the rooms) at Safari Lodge with several reading/sitting areas, dining area, large deck and lively upstairs bar. They feel it's more social at Safari Lodge. The tented rooms are stylishly decorated – large (but not as large as Tree) with seating set in along the sides and over-sized cushions. There’s a small deck with chairs and table. Behind the bed is the bathroom area with a stone outside shower and a giant stone bath. (I can imagine that kids absolutely adore it). However no air-conditioning – ceiling fans only, so could be hot in summer under canvas! The tents are set in colourful indigenous gardens and there’s a shaded pool."
