Chintheche Inn on the northern shores of Lake Malawi has ten beachside rooms furnished in a refreshing style with en suite bathrooms, fans and mosquito nets. One of these rooms is a 4-bed suite and four have interleading doors for families. The northern lakeshore is fringed with luxuriant vegetation and the Viphya Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop to the hotel. Unlike other lakeside hotels, Chintheche offers many activities beyond watersports, with birding walks, visits to local villages and the Bandawe Mission, mountain biking trails and fishing trips with local fishermen. Activities at the Inn include paddle skiing, windsurfing, sailing, sturdy wooden boat trips, as well as a large swimming pool. Diving is excellent here and you can even learn to dive on a PADI-accredited dive course.

Ginny visited Chintheche Inn: "The Chintheche Inn has one of the nicest lakeshore settings of all the hotels and has a very pleasant atmosphere with a reasonable sized pool and lush lawns. The rooms are not huge but they have been very well-renovated and refurbished in the last year. Activities on offer include swimming and snorkeling. Nearby is the Old Bandawe mission station, built in the 1890s by the UMCA missionaries after they had abandoned their first settlement at Cape Maclear. The brick-built church is most atmospheric, as is the poignant little row of graves overlooking the lake. A couple of nights here would be great here; longer if people are keen on watersports."
