Mvuu Wilderness Lodge in the Liwonde National Park is a small and very pretty luxury tented lodge of five tents. Its setting is hard to beat - on the edge of a lily-strewn lagoon where elephant frequently come to drink. Accommodation is in spacious “Hemingway-style” en suite tents, each with its own secluded viewing platform. The thatched lodge has a small rock swimming pool, sun deck and alfresco dining platform overlooking the river and lagoon. In addition to game activities, bicycle trips to local villages are on offer and even an overnight stay at a traditional rural village.

Ginny stayed at Mvuu Lodge: "This very pretty tented lodge was exactly as I had expected from knowing the Wilderness approach. The tents were charming with lovely views over a lily-strewn inlet from the Shire River. They were of the ‘old’ Wilderness variety so not to be compared with the latest ritzy lodges such as Jao but there was a very pleasant ambience. Game viewing at Mvuu is varied, in that you can take bush walks, game drives and boat cruises. We were unlucky not to have seen elephant (except from the air as we arrived) but we saw lots of crocodiles, hippo, fish eagles and other birds. I think that a three day stay here would be fine – four is probably too long."
