Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Retreat is one of our favourites places to stay in the Cedarberg mountains. The canyons, rivers and waterfalls of the Cedarberg can be savoured from the warm and stylish ambience of Bushmanskloof, a luxurious Rélais & Chateaux lodge. A South African natural heritage site, Bushmanskloof offers the world's largest open air art gallery with more than 130 pristine rock art sites, some dating back 10,000 years. Guided rock art walks and sunset nature drives bring guests close to the indigenous game, including eland, red hartebeest, gemsbok, klipspringer, Cape mountain zebra & the elusive Cape mountain leopard.
The 16 en suite rooms (standard and deluxe) and suites at Bushmans Kloof all have private patios, air-conditioning, underfloor heating, ceiling fans, safe, minibar, telephone and full bathroom with bath and shower. The deluxe rooms have spacious bathrooms and a lounge area within the bedroom. Three luxurious suites have separate lounge areas. Other facilities at Bushmans Kloof include two lounge areas in the Homestead (one with flat screen TV), extensive library, internet access, bar, walk-in wine cellar, heated swimming pool, three other pools, gym and a beautiful flower and herb garden. There also a Heritage Centre where guests can view ancient San Bushman artefacts such as jewellery, bags, and dancing sticks as well as photographs that depict their nomadic existence and day-to-day life experiences. The rangers also hold specialist talks and discussions in the Heritage Centre. There is also a Medicinal Herb Garden, situated near the centre, containing plants and herbs that the San people used as remedies to cure all sorts of ailments and illnesses.
Other activities at Bushmans Kloof include birding, mountain biking, walking trails, archery, croquet, fly-fishing, canoeing and of course relaxing by one of the four swimming pools or swimming in the crystal clear rock pools of the river. There's also a health and beauty spa.
Mouth-watering cuisine is served in different locations throughout the Bushmans Kloof reserve. The River Boma provides a perfect setting for sundowners or nightcaps in the moonlight. Makana (meaning ‘to feast’) offers unforgettable brunches and teas with glorious views across the dam and river. Embers is an open-air dining room provides a matchless dining experience under the star-filled African sky where guests may enjoy a traditional South African braai (barbeque) in an exciting outdoor setting within the reserve. Kadoro (meaning the ‘Tinderbox of Stories’) is a ‘secret’ dining location in the reserve especially suitable for private dinners. Whilst the Homestead and Manor House Bar and Deck, under the gigantic fig tree, are ideal for romantic dinners and fine dining. TGCSA 5 star lodge. |
