Oudrif Farm is a real gem, located on the banks of the Doring River, in the foothills of the Cedarberg, 50 km from Clanwilliam, three to four hours' drive northwest of Cape Town. The greatest attraction of Oudrif has to be its complete isolation - it is literally in the middle of nowhere and offers complete relaxation to weary city slickers and adventurers alike. Oudrif has much to entice guests: delicate rock art sites amongst indigenous Fynbos, wild spring flowers, mountain walking, star-gazing, birding and 300 million year old fossils as well as delicious meals (with an emphasis on delicious salads and vegetable dishes as well as meat) served in the boma. Its location offers wild flowers from both the Nama and Karoo regions, which brings a diverse and brilliant wildflower display, particularly in spring. However the essence of Oudrif is the Doring River with swimming in the beautiful river water, fly-fishing throughout the year and white water rafting and canoeing in season (winter and spring).
The five straw-bale chalets are absolutely delightful - stylish and spacious with a clean-cut organic look that is very refreshing. In keeping with the conservation philosophy of Oudrif, straw bale building blocks were used for all construction. This 200 year old building method, is not only environmentally friendly, but also provides great comfort and shelter. Power for lights is gathered from the abundant sunshine that is collected by way of solar panels and constant hot water is provided by gas.

Feedback from Peter Young:
"We travelled north through Ceres and Clanwilliam to remote Oudrif Farm in the Cedarberg Mountains. It was a good antidote to Cape Town. Extremely quiet and peaceful, but still with good hospitality from Bill Mitchell. We did some lovely walks and saw San rock paintings, and somehow were in bed before 10pm - a far cry from Cape Town. No traffic, no lights, no noise."
