Kings Camp is a real find hidden away deep in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve. This delightful colonial-styled lodge has 10 air-conditioned thatched suites. Camp facilities include a lounge, bar and swimming pool with a viewing deck overlooking a waterhole. The staff and rangers are passionate about sharing their knowledge of bush and its wildlife. We like it because of its excellent cuisine, great wine cellar and flexible approach to guest's wishes, with bush breakfasts and sleep outs under the African sky on offer. Children welcome with sleeper couches in some suites (sleeping one large child or two smaller children) and one extra bed in other suites.

News: In October 1975, two white lion cubs were born into a pride of lions in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve bordering the Kruger National Park. The lions were discovered by Chris McBride who went on to write a book in 1977 about the famous lions, "White Lions of The Timbavati" The prides territory then covered over most of what is today Kings Camp traversing area. Since then there were a few other white lions born in the Timbavati and immediate vicinity. The last white lion in the Timbavati disappeared in 1992, probably killed by another lion or lions. White lions are not albino animals but a recessive gene carried by the normal tawny parent lions that produce this rare occurrence. This genetic mutation is the same as the "King Cheetah" which has been recorded in the wild. Why it is only prevalent in the Timbavati area and no where else is a mystery. On the 23rd of May this year it was confirmed that a lioness was seen just north of the Timbavati with two white lion cubs estimated to be around 4-6 weeks old. The present location of the cubs is no more than a few of kilometers to the north of our traversing area. The pride to which the cubs have been born do venture southwards into our area from time to time which is very exciting news for us. It must be noted that the cubs are still very young and therefore vulnerable. The mortality rate amongst any lion cubs is very high. The Timbavati, Umbabat and Klaserie Private Nature Reserve are all adjacent to one another and open to the Kruger National Park. The three reserves are tightly connected as an Association of Private Nature Reserves with no internal boundaries separating them. Wildlife in the area is free to move between all three reserves and the Kruger National Park making it a healthy ecosystem.
