Honeyguide Tented Camps | South Africa

[South Africa Hotels and Accommodation]
In the Manyeleti Game Reserve which has open borders to the Kruger to the east and joins the Sabi Sands to the south, the charming Honeyguide consists of two tented camps.

Honeyguide Mantobeni is designed to reflect Hemmingway's Africa. The reception areas comprise a large sitting area, indoor and outdoor dining areas with bar and wine cellar. It's decorated in a comfortable contemporary style. An attractive lap pool and deck adjoins the lodge and overlooks a nearby waterhole for game. The twelve tents are evocative of a 1940's style safari, complete with old leather chairs or sofas and writing desks. The en suite bathroom has a sunken bath, shower and separate toilet. Lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino are all regularly sighted in the Manyeleti, along with a host of smaller mammal species. Food is an important part of the Honeyguide experience with delicious meals served in great style.

Honeyguide Khoka Moya is in the Manyeleti Private Game Reserve which has open borders to the Kruger to the east and joins the Sabi Sands to the south. Honeyguide Khoka Moya offers an authentic African experience without sacrificing luxury, safety or comfort. Simply designed in wood, the open plan minimalist lounge and dining areas of the camp overlook lawns leading to the swimming pool and outside bar. Guests are accommodated in twelve spacious tents decorated in comfortable yet contemporary style. Cotton sheets and damask linen add style to comfort. Each tent is en-suite with a double shower, double vanity and separate toilet. A small private outdoor seating area in front of each tent allows you to relax and take in the sounds of the bush.

Honeyguide is a child-friendly lodge. Children are welcomed on game drives and after breakfast, younger children can enjoy a range of activities with the camp staff from identifying animal tracks, to arts & crafts with natural bush materials they've collected, to helping make cookies for tea. These activities not only enhance their enjoyment of the bush, but also allow their parents to either join the guided bush walk with their ranger, or to relax in around the pool with a good book. (Children under 12 years of age are not allowed to join the one hour bush walks due to safety concerns). Each tent is large enough to take two extra beds and a cot.

We recommend Honeyguide Mantobeni for the tented romance coupled with contemporary style and Khoka Moya for its excellent family safari programme. One of our consultants will gladly help you with any further questions you may have.
Kate stayed at Khoka Moya with her family in Juy 2006:

"Children's programme
Again because they have openly courted children, there will probably always be children staying at the camp. These means that they can accommodate younger children to go on the game drives with their parents (because you can put families together if necessary). This was an added bonus. I thought that Kerry, the guide was very skilled at dealing with the children and at pitching her guiding to their level. Our tracker was also very knowledgeable (he was doing his guiding exams) and so we were able to learn from him as well. The children also enjoyed their turn in the tracker seat. This was a big hit.

The game was plentiful with one memorable drive giving us four of the Big Five though you are far less likely to see leopard here than in the Sabi Sands. Hot water bottles on the game drives were much appreciated and actually vital at that time of year for children (and parents) to enjoy the drive.

Simplicity of the lodge
The lodge is minimalistic. I loved the beanbags around the fire instead of the usual camp chairs. Much more comfortable and informal. The tents were very spacious and managed to fit our three children in which is unusual for a tent. They would comfortably accommodate two children. The open area of grass was also great for children with a nice games of rugby and football taking place at various times during our stay. This was a great way for children to run around in a safe environment.

I also stayed at Honeyguide Mantobeni in 2004 and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The food was superb and included a surprise bush dinner."
