Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse | South Africa

[South Africa Hotels and Accommodation]
Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse on the edge of the Drakensberg mountains is a luxury gourmet retreat tucked deep into the mountains beside a beautiful dam, not far from Giants Castle and Kamberg Nature Reserves with their famous San Rock Art. The large main room, setting for the legendary ‘foodie’ dinners, is cantilevered over a crystal clear dam. Excitingly different, Richard offers fine gourmet food using local ingredients and home-grown herbs. His wife, Mouse, has filled the house with many artefacts to interest and amuse. The five rooms and four suites are quirky and welcoming, with many personal touches. All have television, separate showers, crisp cotton sheets, mohair blankets and heated underblankets. Activities from Cleopatra include walking, visiting San rock art, horse riding, birding and trout fishing in nearby dams and rivers.

Mr Sugden, England, March 2004:
"A superb gourmet retreat, nothing else to say. The owner, Richard, is virtually a TV chef type, now compiling his own cookery book. Every evening is a cabaret while he introduces and presents his cuisine and very dish looks like it has just arrived off the colour pages of his book. Please be advised - should anyone go with any kind of diet in mind - vegetarian, vegan, low fat, whatever, the regime there is not made for compromise."

Comment by Kate, May 2005:
"Please note that the eclectic, somewhat eccentric decor will not suit those who prefer a more minimalist, refined style. However I think that this is more than offset by the stunning food and the superb setting by the water with the backdrop of the mountains."
