Isandlwana Lodge | South Africa

[South Africa Hotels and Accommodation]
Isandlwana Lodge, in the Natal Battlefields, is perched high against the iNyoni Rock in an unforgettable setting – stylish, romantic and thought-provoking. It was on this rock that the Zulu commander stood to direct the battle of Isandlwana on 22 Jan 1879. Rob Gerrard, renowned military historian, or one of his associates take battlefield tours which bring the conflict and the human drama to life. (Tours to others Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer sites are available by prior arrangement.) Horse-riding, birding and hiking in this scenic country, and a cultural walk through the village with a local staff member, are also on offer. The 12 stylish and contemporary rooms have private balconies, ideal for drinking in the stunning views over the valley amphitheatre as the sun sets. Dinner is served in the candlelit dining room by two Zulu chefs. An inviting swimming pool is built among the rocks.

Mr Sugden, England:
"Another major highlight. Breathtaking location, brilliant battlefield tours with Rob Gerrard (resident military historian), good food and evening entertainment including a lively Zulu Group doing traditional songs- quite a find."
