Hog Hollow Country Lodge | South Africa

[South Africa Hotels and Accommodation]
Hog Hollow Country Lodge lies in its own private nature reserve with breathtaking views over the indigenous forest valley to the Tsitsikamma Mountains, approx 18km east of the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay. This is essentially a rural retreat for lovers of delectable food, warm hospitality and panoramic views.

While the décor is stylishly simple, with much use of local woods, African crafts and fabrics, the cuisine is lavish and imaginative. Sumptuous candlelit dinners at Hog Hollow are convivial affairs around a communal table (with separate tables available if you prefer) whilst farmhouse breakfasts are served alfresco on the lovely wooden deck overlooking the forest. Below the breakfast deck is a large pool deck with teak day beds, sauna (with view) and an honesty bar for drinks whenever you want them. Hog Hollow is one of those places that, even though the surrounding area is full of opportunities, you find yourself spending quite a bit of time simply enjoying the lodge!

Decorated in African style, with handcrafted furniture, each of the fifteen rooms in the garden has a king size bed, private wooden deck (with hammock) and bathroom with bath and shower. Loft suites, with a downstairs sitting room, can accommodate one or two children. There are walking trails (steep) down to the river below and even to the Monkeyland primate sanctuary. TGCSA 4 star guest house.

We recommend Hog Hollow for nearly everyone ! Particularly those who enjoy good food in a comfortable relaxing environment. One of our consultants will gladly help you with any further questions.
Kate visited with her children in July:
"I liked it 10 years ago and I like it now. Hog Hollow is simply a class act and is strongly recommended.

It's set on the edge of an indigenous forest in a private nature reserve with glorious views of the surrounding forests and mountains. Recent changes are an enlarged reception area with a separate breakfast buffet area, two sitting areas and the new swimming pool on a lower deck, just that bit further away from the lodge for greater privacy. All rooms have a deck, music system, coffee / tea making facilities, but no TVs or telephone as it is the enjoyment of the natural environment which makes Hog Hollow so special.

Though Hog Hollow doesn’t strongly sell its child-friendliness, they have put a lot of effort into catering for children and I thought it was a perfect place for families. A selection of children’s story books and African story CD were provided on arrival and the children received milk and gingerbread cookies in the early evening which went down very well. Children under 9 years are not encouraged (rightly) to attend the main dinner but we had kids' meal at 6.30pm in the dining room. My dinner was excellent as always with good conversation around the table.

One other point – there is more and more to do in this part of the Garden Route and it remains my favourite area as it is bustling with people. In addition to Plettenberg Bay and the Tsitsikamma National Park, there is Monkeyland, the new Elephant Sanctuary which I recommend, and the range of adventures offered by Stormsriver Adventures."
